Senior Lecturer in Economics - University of Gothenburg

With around 3 700 full-time equivalent students, 500 employees and 160 international partner universities, the main subjects of economics and law, and its four departments, the School of Business, Economics and Law offers a unique range. The School also provides unique collaborations with industry and the public sector. The School of Business, Economics and Law is EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA accredited, making it the only business school in Sweden with Triple Crown accreditation.

The Department of Economics belong to the School of Business, Economics and Law at University of Gothenburg and has around 100 employees from several countries. The teaching within the department is economics and statistics and the department has around 800 students registered at courses and programs. A diversity of researcher are located at the department where several of them are internationally well known economists. The conducting research is within a broad range of areas, including labor, health, environmental, development, behavioral, and financial economics. The department aim to recruit one Senior Lecturer for a temporary position during one year for teaching and supervision at the bachelor and master level.

Subject area description

Economics focuses on the behaviour and interactions of economic agents and how economies work. Economics is often defined in terms of the method used to tackle social science problems, rather than the specific issues being studied.

Job assignments

The job assignments as senior lecturer consists of lectures, seminars and supervision of students’ theses work at bachelor and master levels. More specifically, we are looking for a lecturer for the master course GM1002 Financial Institutions and Markets, the bachelor course NEK103 Applied Economics, and supervision of bachelor and master theses.

The assignments also include administrative tasks such as grading and scheduling.

The teaching and supervision will be done in English at master level and in Swedish at bachelor level.

Eligibility

The eligibility for employment as a teacher is stated in chapter 4, sections 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and the University of Gothenburg's employment procedure.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Finance, Economics or a closely related field in order to be eligible for employment as a Senior Lecturer.

Qualified is the person who masters Swedish and English in speech and writing.

Assessment

The assessment criteria for employment as a teacher are set out in Chapter 4, Sections 3–4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and in the University of Gothenburg’s own appointments procedure.

The position should strengthen the interaction between research and education and contribute to increased internationalization. The position is therefore aimed at people who are active researchers in financial economics. Great emphasis will be placed on your own research of relevance to the education and the course GM1002 Financial Institutions and Markets as well as in international experiences. You must have previous experience of teaching finance at the undergraduate -and master level and be pedagogically competent to be able to communicate with the department's students in an educational and clear manner. Therefore, a record of pedagogical training is required. It´s meritorious to have previous experience of teaching courses dealing with financial institutions and markets or equivalent. Previous experience of supervising students is also a merit.

An overall assessment of the applicants will be done based on the requirements described above.

Employment

The employment as Senior Lecturer in Economics is a temporary employment during one year with an extent of 20 % of full time. The position is located at the Department of Economics, University of Gothenburg. Starting date is September 1, 2020 or upon agreement.
